In 1975, engineer Karel Žlábek submitted a proposal in the form of a detailed project of a high-speed railway that would connect České Budějovice and the Adriatic Sea by an underground tunnel. This tunnel would lead to the artificial island of Adriaport built from the material obtained by hollowing out the tunnel. The island was supposed to become property of the Czechoslovak state.
