Svatopluk Sem studied voice at the Conservatory in České Budějovice with Professor Dagmar Volfová. In 1998 he was offered a permanent engagement at the South Bohemian Theatre, where he has studied dozens of diverse roles such as Figaro (The Barber of Seville), Giorgio Germont (La Traviata), Valentin (Faust), Papageno (The Magic Flute) and Guglielmo (Così fan tutte). Starting with the 2009/2010 season, he has been a soloist at the Prague State Opera, where he has widened his repertoire with Marcello (La Bohème) and Sharpless (Madama Butterfly). He made a successful appearance in the role of Devil in the opera The Miracles of Mary, conducted by Jiří Bělohlávek at the Prague National Theatre. He is also a regular guest at the National Theatre in Brno, where he sang the part of Harašta (The Cunning Little Vixen) and Avenant (Beauty and the Beast). He is a sought-after soloist at other opera houses in the Czech Republic (J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen, the Moravian Theatre in Olomouc and the Moravian-Silesian National Theatre in Ostrava).
