Fernando Portari

Fernando Portari is a native of Rio de Janeiro where he studied voice with his father, piano with Zinaida Liggiero and drama with Antonio Mercado. He made his operatic debut in Germany. At present he ranks among the most interesting lyric tenors in the world. His star roles include especially Massenet’s operatic heroes Werther and the knight des Grieux, Verdi’s Duke of Mantua and Alfredo Germont and Mozart’s Don Ottavio. He has sung under leading conductors such as Stefano Ranzani, Gianluigi Gelmetti and Daniel Barenboim. He performs most frequently in Italy, and his home stages include the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, the Teatro Bellini in Catania and the Gran Teatre La Fenice in Venice. He is also well-known from a number of performances in the former Eastern Bloc (Moscow and Warsaw).
