Jolana Fogašová

Jolana Fogašová studied voice at the Conservatory in Bratislava (1986–90) and the Academy of Performing Arts, with Viktória Stracenská (1990–94); in 2009 she obtained her doctoral degree at this school. Since 1993, she has been a permanent guest at the Slovak National Theatre in Bratislava and the National Theatre in Prague. In the same year, she started her successful international career as a mezzo-soprano, while in the following years, her voice range, technique and artistic potential made her focus on soprano roles. Recently, she concentrates on characters such as Tosca, Manon Lescaut, Eglantine (Euryanta), Abigaile (Nabucco), Elsa (Lohengrin), Venus (Tannhäuser), Lady Macbeth (Macbeth), Joan of Arc (The Maid of Orleans), Judith (Bluebeard’s Castle), Santuzza (Cavalleria rusticana), Chérubin (Massenet: Chérubin), Lucrezia Borgia etc., of Czech repertoire for instance Ježibaba and the Foreign Princess (Rusalka), Božena (Vanda), the Fox (The Cunning Little Vixen) and Kristina (The Makropulos Case), which she sang even at La Scala in Milan. She has collaborated with a number of prominent orchestras and renowned conductors. In 2012 she appeared at a Christmas concert with the famous tenor José Carerras.
