- Abduction from the Seraglio
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Comic opera
Premiere 14. 12. 2012
Before the gallant way in which he expressed love in The Marriage of Figaro or demonically like in Don Giovanni, love in Abduction from Seraglio - in the first German comic opera in general - is expressed by the composer with an open emotionality.
In this story, which was set to music according to the theatre play Belmont and Constance by Christoph Bretzner, evoking a mystic and sensual atmosphere of the Orient and developing a sophisticated story, seasoned with humour, about two European girls from a Turkish harem belonging to a pasha, obsessed with love, we can feel the pulse of Mozart’s hot young blood perhaps most strongly, even after 230 years.
