Giacomo Puccini
Verismo opera
Premiere 27. 9. 2013
The revolutionary political events in Italy in June 1800 are the backdrop of the verismo drama of the passionate singer Tosca and her lover, the painter Cavaradossi, for whom the pious Tosca decides to commit a murder, and finally has to end her life. This story has been fascinating audiences all over the world since its Roman premiere in 1900. It owes is success not only to the outstanding dramatic work by the French playwright Victorien Sardou, but especially Puccini’s music - passionate, tender, sorrowful and crushing like the life itself.
