Husa na provázku Theatre
Vernissage of Shame
This wasn’t the way things were in our day! Today's young people don't even socialize anymore. We used to spend time together—everything that was rustling about, we knew. Who was rustling with whom, that was known too. And everyone in the village knew that the lads were rustling around in the hayloft!
Karel Jaromír Erben collected fairy tales, while Karel Jaroslav Obrátil collected dirty tales. And there were plenty of them in the history of the Czech village. Sex not only sells, but it also belongs to our basic instincts. And it has always been that way. Yet it remains a social taboo. We are outraged by an artist performing naked in front of children. We consider nudist beaches a German perversion. Even Adam and Eve had their genitals covered with laurel leaves. We've experienced the sexual revolution, the rise of Tinder and OnlyFans; polyamory isn't the biggest shocker anymore. We may no longer sing dirty folk songs together, but we lock ourselves into virtual dating apps with all sorts of specializations. So why is someone's sexual orientation or preference still a reason for social exclusion? Why do we feel ashamed of our instincts when it's because of them that we all exist in the world? We invite you to the opening of our relationship with sexuality, where we will collectively unveil a unique work of art—our own shame.
The production was prepared by Divadlo Husa na provázku. An artistic movement whose origins date back to the second half of the 1960s. Since 1967, it has brought together theater artists, writers, musicians, and visual artists for whom art is a way of life and artistic creation a privilege. The poetics of this theater movement are characterized by an emphasis on developing the unique heritage of so-called irregular dramaturgy, the power of imagination, and shared physicality. In its work, it builds on freedom of expression, openness to dialogue, and plurality of opinion, and through its productions, it strives to spread these values and cultivate Central European civil society. Today, Divadlo Husa na provázku occupies a unique place on the European theater map, and its award-winning productions are regular guests at festivals in Czechia and abroad.
The complete festival program, including the Opening Weekend, will be on sale from March 3, 2026. The South Specific Festival is part of České Budějovice – European Capital of Culture 2028. The festival is held under the auspices of the mayor of the statutory city of České Budějovice.
