False identity in an English style operetta
Premiere 5. 5. 2017
The first operetta from the British Isles staged at the South Bohemian Theatre was premiered over 130 years ago at the Savoy Theatre in London. Since then it has enjoyed incredible success with 672 reruns. Situating the story in exotic Japan is a witty guise to laugh about relationships not only in good old England, but also in weakly present-day Europe. No one here is exactly what they claim to be, so it is necessary to be on the watch out because the operetta is certainly not short of either intrigues or absurd situations. After all, no love is great enough to get buried alive, but on the other hand, threatening the good reputation of the position of the general headsman with a botched self-decapitation would no doubt be a faux pas of criminal negligence… Intelligent, typical British-style dry an in parts black humour, this operetta was brilliantly translated into Czech by Michael Žantovský. Combined with music that you will never tire of, the performance offers a fresh piece of musical theatre. The opera is staged in the Czech translation.
